There are places where autumn means going back.

In Formentera, it can also mean staying a little longer.

Because here, the transition from summer to autumn does not happen overnight. The light remains, terraces continue to be part of everyday life and the Mediterranean stays in the background.

But the energy changes. And with it, so does the way you experience the island.

The Mediterranean after summer

Autumn in Formentera does not need to look like autumn anywhere else.

October brings milder temperatures and particularly pleasant days to rediscover plans that, at the height of summer, had to compete with too many other things at once.

Walking along the coast. Cycling around the island. Discovering its villages. Enjoying a meal without rushing. Arriving early for sunset simply because there is no reason to hurry.

The island even celebrates this season with Formentera in Autumn, a campaign running from 27 September to 31 October that highlights the landscape, gastronomy, sport, culture and outdoor experiences.

An island that still has plenty to tell

October is far from an empty epilogue.

In fact, it is one of the months with the most varied calendar of events.

On 3 October, Es Pujols hosts the XII Triatlón Illa de Formentera. From 5 to 11 October, art takes over different spaces around the island with Tardor d'Art. On 9 October, Formentera turns its gaze towards the stars with Formentera Mira al Cel.

And then comes one of the moments that best captures this time of year.

Running as the sun goes down

On Saturday, 10 October, the 15K Formentera Sunset Run starts at 6:00 pm.

The event offers 15K and 5K routes and is designed around the final light of the day. The 15K follows a circular route starting and finishing in Es Pujols, while the 5K starts at the port and also finishes in Es Pujols.

Sport, landscape and sunset in one experience.

Three elements that perfectly capture how Formentera feels when summer begins to turn down the volume.

Flavours that change with the season

October also puts the focus back on the table.

From 12 to 25 October, the Gastronomic Weeks bring together participating restaurants with menus created especially for the occasion, inspired by traditional Formentera cuisine and local produce.

It is another reminder that discovering the island is not simply about seeing it.

It also means tasting it, listening to it and letting yourself be carried away by the atmosphere of each moment.

An idea closely connected to the way we understand the experience at Five Flowers Hotel Formentera Meliá Collection: travel is built through sensations.

The last light

Perhaps there is something particularly Five Flowers Hotel Formentera Meliá Collection about this time of year.

Sunsets arrive earlier and, precisely because of that, take on even greater importance.

The sun descends. The light changes. The temperature softens.

And for a few minutes, it feels as though the entire island stops to look in the same direction.

Formentera in autumn is not trying to extend summer. Nor does it need to become winter just yet. It simply finds a different rhythm.

And sometimes, discovering a place as its rhythm changes is the best way to truly get to know it.
